Petrol bomb blast at at Vellarada village office in Thiruvananthapuram Four people were injured here on Thursday after a helmeted man enter entered the building and lit a petrol bomb. Of the four injured, village assistant Venu is said to is said to be critical.
According to initial reports, a man in a bike came to the village office. He entered the office wearing his helmet and said that he would teach the village officer a lesson. Reports say he kept a petrol bomb on the table and ran away.
Village Assistant Venugopal, who sustained serious injuries has been admitted to Thiruvananthapuram medical college while the rest of the injured have been admitted to Neyyattinkara taluk hospital. Sources say a man, who arrived at the office lit an object suspected to be a petrol bomb. The man wearing overcoat and helmet had threatened the village officer before lighting the object and flee the spot soon. Eye witness say the man too was injured. Venugopal suffered burns while attempting to stop the man. Police have launched an investigation.
The incident happened around 11 am when a miscreant, who came on a motorbike, through a box into the office and tried to set it afire with a matchstick. However, the bomb inside the box went off even before it caught the fire. The offender fled the scene after the incident.
Apart from the officials in the Vellarada Village office, people who came to the office for different needs were also injured in the blast.
The reason of the attack is yet to be ascertained.
