Abhinav Bindra joins Salman Khan as Rio goodwill ambassador.Indian Olympic Association (IOA), in a bid to save its face after massive outrage by former and current Olympians over the appointment of Salman Khan as India’s goodwill ambassador for the Rio Olympics, has now roped in ace marksman and 2008 Beijing Olympics gold medallist Abhinav Bindra as goodwill ambassador for the Indian contingent.Besides Khan and Bindra, IOA has also approached former Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar and Oscar-winning music composer A R Rahman with a similar offer. The 33-year-old Bindra, on Friday , accepted IOA ‘s approach in a series of tweets.”Received a letter this afternoon from the president and secretary general of the IOA inviting me to be a good will ambassador,” Bindra tweeted.

“I am humbled that they thought I am wort hy enough for this ho nour. I respectfully ac cept this with gratitude,” he added. The rifle shooter, who will be participating in his fifth Olympics in Rio, stated that he will write to every member of the Indian Olympic contingent and offer them help within his capacity . Abhinav Bindra pointed out, “I have lived my life for the OG & have always done my best to work for the betterment of the Olympic movement in India & I will continue. While my focus will be to perform at Rio, I will be writing to every member of the Indian Olympic team & offering them any help they may want.”Even though he would be engaged in several off-field activities in the coming months, Bindra made it clear that his focus for the marquee event wouldn’t waver.

“Every Indian Olympian is a champion in his or her own right, I would just be sharing my experiences with them! I would be open to doing this until the 15th of July & after that my focus will completely be towards my own performance until my event,” the 33-year-old declared.
