Vehicular traffic remained disrupted on the Tirumala ghat road on Tuesday owing to a massive landslide about a km from here.Huge boulders and mounds of soil along with the uprooted trees blocked the road leaving no space for vehicles to move. Fortunately no casualties were reported. The TTD’s engineering officials, who immediately swung into action, diverted the vehicular traffic onto the link road connecting both the Tirumala ghat roads and engaged themselves in the restoration work. Earth movers were pressed into service and trucks were deployed to clear the debris.Officials attributed the reason to the loosening of the soil owing to the intermittent rains that lashed the hill town in the last couple of weeks.TTD Executive Officer D. Sambasiva Rao along with his deputy K.S. Srinivasa Raju who rushed to the spot monitored the restoration works. When the officials brought to the notice of the Executive Officer that the spot was more vulnerable for further landslips he ordered the officials not to take any chance and ensure that the place was free of any expected mishaps. The officials were also directed to identify other vulnerable points if any on the ghat road and plug them on a war-footing.
