Punjab: Agriculture Director Mangal Singh Sandhu arrested in corruption case
In Punjab, Bathinda district police arrested Director of Agriculture Depatment, Mangal Singh Sandhu from Chandigarh late last night for charges against him in a corruption case in supply of spurious pesticides in the state. Confirming the arrest, Bathinda police said that after registration of a case for supply of spurious pesticides, a business man was arrested and he had alleged that Director Agriculture has taken bribe for supply of pesticides. Police said more arrests may be made in this case in future. It may be noted that cotton crop has absolutely destroyed in the state due to attack of a pest known as ‘White Fly’. The pesticide supplied in the state on the recommendation of state agriculture department had failed to control the pest. Agriculture Director was earlier removed by the state government but court stayed his removal.
