People holding handwritten passports should immediately apply for a new one as handwritten passports are soon going to become invalid. Officials will not allow international visits for those people possessing handwritten passports. Passports being issued now contain electronic print and no manual writing. But those issued before the year 2001 were handwritten. Some were issued passports with a validity of 20 years. So, some of them are still being used. C. Senthil Pandian, Regional Passport Officer (RPO), Chennai, told media the previous year that the International Civil Aviation Organization had set a deadline of November 24th, 2015 to globally phase out all non-machine readable passports. Hyderabad Passport official Aswini Sattaru also said the same.
