Sushma Swaraj to hold bilateral meetings with US Secretary of State John Kerry today
Minister of External Affairs Sushma Swaraj will hold bilateral meetings later today in Washington with US Secretary of State John Kerry as part of US India Strategic and Commercial Dialogue. Apart from Ms. Swaraj, Minister of state for Commerce Ms. Nirmala Sitaraman and Minister of State for power, Coal and Renewable energy Mr. Piyush Goyal are also in US capital to participate in the strategic and commercial dialogue between India and the US.Earlier on Tuesday, Minister of State for Power and renewable energy Mr. Piyush Goel participated in India- US Ministerial level energy dialogue. He said that the focus of dialogue was on affordable energy access to people in India. Speaking exclusively to the AIR special correspondent Rajesh Jha, after the conclusion of India US Energy Dialogue Mr. Goel said that India and US discussed a range of issues related to energy sector-He emphasised the importance of the renewable energy sector and said that government has planned to increase the solar power capacity in the country to 1 lakh megawatts by 2022. Mr. Goyal said that clean energy helped improvement of the environment but it was also important from the energy security point of view.He said that India has enough installed capacity in the power generation sector which is not operationalized. Mr. Goyal said that many such projects would be made operational in the coming 2-3 years doubling India’s energy output. He said that there was a huge opportunity of investment to the tune of 15 lac crore rupees in the energy sector in the coming 5-7 years. He called upon the business community of India and US to invest in the energy sector which offered great opportunity for business.
