Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is on a day-long tour of his Lok Sabha constituency Varanasi, on Friday said that main aim should be to ensure poor people of India become self-reliant. Addressing a rally, where he distributed 501 paddle rickshaws and 101 e-rickshaws, Modi said, “The aim of my government is to make poor self-sufficient. For years we have only heard the slogan of ‘garibi hatao’. Our efforts to remove poverty over the years have not yielded the results we desired. The speed (of removing poverty) needs to improve.”.Modi further added, “The biggest weapon one can use to fight poverty is education of children. Every person wants his or her child to lead a life better than what they led. I request you to educate your children. Whatever circumstances are, don’t deprive them of education.”.Talking about E-rickshaws, he said that it will change the future of Varanasi & when tourists will come to the temple city, the first interactions they will have will be with rickshaw drivers.”This is the third visit of the Prime Minister to the ancient temple town after assuming office in May last year..Heavy deployment of police and paramilitary forces are in place to maintain law and order and control traffic during the nearly seven-hour-long tour of the PM.
